The Baptism In the Holy Spirit

Pastor Kendall shares a basic overview of the doctrine of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. He covers the top ten questions about the Holy Spirit. Questions like:

  • How do we know that we have received the Baptism in the Spirit?

  • Is the gift of Tongues a language or just gibberish?

  • Can you control it? Or can it just start speaking on its own?

  • Could this open me up to something demonic?

  • What happens when I pray in the Spirit?

The Gift of the Holy Spirit

Pastor Kendall shares on five different occasions you can be filled with the Spirit of God.

John 14:16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever—

Ephesians 5:17-18 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is. 18Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.

Acts 1:4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about.

Three Baptisms

1 Corinthians 12:13 -For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.

We believe the Bible clearly demonstrates that all believers experience three different baptisms:

  1. Salvation

  2. Water

  3. Holy Spirit

The Spirit Language

1 Corinthians 14:14,15: For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.

Kendall covers three myths about speaking in tongues.

  1. You start speaking fluently on the first day.

  2. You can’t control it.

  3. It’s just going to jump out of you on the first day.

Pray To Receive The Holy Spirit

There is no magic formula to receiving the Baptism in the Holy Spirit! To receive the Baptism in the Holy Spirit there is really only one prerequisite, and that is to confess and believe in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.

Simply pray and ask for Jesus to baptize you in the Holy Spirit. If it doesn’t happen when you pray, don’t be discouraged! It’s all in God’s timing. Pray with an open heart and mind to receive the gift!

You can pray something like this below, make it your own!

“Heavenly Father, I thank You that Jesus saved me. I pray that the Holy Spirit might come upon me. Lord Jesus, I ask that You baptize me now in the Holy Spirit. I receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit right now by faith in Your Word. May the anointing, the glory, and the power of God come upon me and into my life right now. May I be empowered for service from this day forward. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for baptizing me in Your Holy Spirit. Amen.”
